Maplewood Elementary History
Maplewood Elementary is unique in that it emerged from a Pre-K-8th grade site into it’s own Pre-K-5th grade elementary school in 2014. The school itself was created in 1944 to accommodate families working in the first refinery in West Calcasieu Parish. Today Maplewood Elementary has enrollment of approximately 600 students.
Located near parks and a recreation center, Maplewood has maintained it’s reputation as a community school. An on-site extended day care provides an added convenience for our parents. Our PTO, parent volunteer program, Leader in Me volunteers, and Partners in Education offer parents and other community members the opportunity to support our school initiatives. This includes parent education programs such as student-led conferences, Family Read Nights, Muffins and Math, and test prep tutorial and parent orientations. School-to-parent communications include the bi-weekly school newsletter, school website, and Take Home Tuesday Leadership notebooks. Parents are welcome to visit classrooms by appointment with advance notice.
